Traveling with food restrictions can feel a little intimidating, especially when you’re trying to balance fun, safety, and let’s be honest—flavor. I’m gluten- and dairy-free, and I’ve made it my mission to find the best, safest, and most delicious options at Universal Orlando Resort. Whether you’re planning your first trip or your tenth, here’s everything you need to know about staying safe and eating well while living your best theme park life.
Where to Stay: The Most Allergy-Friendly Universal Resorts
Staying on-site at Universal can make your trip easier in so many ways, and if you’re gluten- and dairy-free, some resorts are better than others for food options.
Your best bet for variety and allergy-safe meals? The Signature Hotels:
- Loews Portofino Bay Hotel
- Hard Rock Hotel
- Loews Royal Pacific Resort
- Loews Sapphire Falls Resort
- Helios Grand Hotel (the new kid on the block, I’m excited to explore it in August!)
Signature hotels usually have full-service sit-down restaurants, which means more variety and the ability to speak directly with a chef if needed. The chefs here are often able to create custom meals that meet your dietary needs—huge win.
But don’t count out the value resorts!
I’ve had great experiences at both Endless Summer Surfside Inn & Suites and Cabana Bay Beach Resort. During my last stay at Cabana Bay, I ate the skirt steak with chimichurri from Bayliner Diner THREE times. Yes, it was that good. And yes, it was gluten- and dairy-free. Don’t sleep on the quick service spots—many offer allergy menus or are willing to customize.

Universal Studios Florida: My Go-To Gluten & Dairy-Free Spots
1. Today Café
This is one of my absolute favorite places to eat on the Studios side. They offer gluten-free bread, vegan cheese (hallelujah!), and a variety of sides that are both GF and DF. But what really stood out to me was how comfortable they made me feel. The staff was super knowledgeable and didn’t make me feel like a burden for asking allergy questions. That goes a long way.
2. Schwab’s Pharmacy
Dole Whip. Need I say more? This sweet, dairy-free treat is perfect for a mid-afternoon cool down and tastes just like a Florida vacation should.
Other spots to check out: The Leaky Cauldron may have some safe options if you talk with the chef, especially for meat-and-veg style plates. I’m always on the lookout for new snack-friendly spots—so if you have a favorite, let me know!

Islands of Adventure: Where Burgers and Magic Happen
1. Burger Digs (Jurassic Park)
A total hidden gem. They offer gluten-free buns and had some seriously fun burger combos when I visited. My favorite included fried plantains, pork belly, and avocado—a flavor bomb I didn’t expect to love so much. And it was totally safe for me!
2. Thunder Falls Terrace
This is a solid quick-service spot with hearty, protein-heavy options. I was able to customize a plate with grilled chicken and roasted corn—simple, safe, and surprisingly satisfying.
3. The Three Broomsticks
Classic theme park fare with a magical twist. Talk to a chef here to get your options. I’ve had success customizing meals with roasted chicken, corn, and salad. Plus, the atmosphere? 10/10.
Coming Soon: Epic Universe Foodie Dreams
I’m heading to the brand new Epic Universe in August, and yes—I’ve already started scoping out menus. One place that looks especially promising for gluten- and dairy-free dining is Atlantic, the fine dining restaurant in the Celestial Park area. From what I’ve seen, they’ll be offering several seafood and veggie-based dishes that should be easy to modify. I’ll report back with a full review, but color me very excited.
Tips for Staying Safe (and Sane)
Here are a few tricks I swear by to keep me feeling good while still enjoying the parks:
- Always ask to speak with a chef or allergy-trained team member. Even if something looks safe on paper, confirm. And if your allergies are severe, don’t skip this step.
- Menus can and do change. What was gluten-free in January might not be in August.
- Bring your own breakfast. I don’t tolerate eggs (and I don’t love paying $18 for fruit and potatoes), so I pack protein bars or smoothies for a quick hotel breakfast. Then we eat an early lunch in the parks.
- Stay hydrated. It helps your body process food better and keeps you feeling good in the Florida heat.
- Pack your go-to snacks. Especially if you’re picky about ingredients or want to avoid cross-contamination.
Final Thoughts:
You can eat safely, happily, and deliciously at Universal Orlando Resort as a gluten- and dairy-free traveler. With a little planning, some good questions, and a few protein bars, you’ll be off enjoying burgers, Dole Whip, and magical meals without stress.
